Jo has been working as a professional artist for more than 25 years and has expertise in a range of printmaking techniques.
This latest body of work has been made using the cyanotype print process, exposing sensitised paper to the strong UV light of the Caribbean sun to produce the final Prussian blue print. These prints show the product of two years of experimentation and exploration. Inspired by the beautiful light of the Caribbean, Jo uses tropical flora and latterly antique glass scent and gin bottles to make her striking and memorable ‘sunprints’. Each print is wholly unique and not part of an edition. Each piece is a sort of dance between the sun, time and the intentions of the artist. The blues may deepen, the whites may fade and it all comes down to precision meeting nature.
Jo studied for her BA (Hons) in Painting at Edinburgh College of Art and her MA in Printmaking at Chelsea College of Arts, London. She has since exhibited widely across the UK, and lives and works in London.
